stronger, younger and healthier: 3 quick tips for busy men

As you age, it becomes increasingly important to take care of your body, mind and overall health. Despite your hectic schedule, it’s critical to create habits that bring you longevity, elevate your energy, and decrease your chances of developing chronic illness. Sure it takes some planning and effort, but if it means adding years to your life I think we’d both agree it’s a wise investment. Here are 3 simple tips to follow today, that will give you immediate and lasting health results.

1. Stay hydrated.

Frequently we mistake food cravings and hunger for thirst. Don’t get fooled by the flashy Gatorade flavors or electrolyte drinks- those are typically packed with added sugars and coloring chemicals that simply deteriorate your immunity and health.  Nothing can replace the countless benefits that come from simply drinking water (coconut water is excellent for post-workout hydration!).  Always keep a water bottle by your side and continue to fill it up throughout the day. (tip: to determine how much water you should drink each day, aim to have clear appearing urine as often as possible).

2. Keep it simple.

If you can’t pronounce or recognize an ingredient, don’t eat it. This is a simple yet underrated rule to live by. Processed and packaged foods are filled with complicated ingredients that destroy your health. To avoid consuming hidden chemicals, sodium, sugars, or additives, opt for ‘clean’ foods. Clean foods are minimally processed (think whole fruits, vegetables, grains) that pack mega nutritional value. These foods can drastically reduce your risk of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and inflammation.

3. Don’t let your desk rule your world.

Get moving- stand up, walk around, or run up and down a flight of stairs for 10 minutes every 2-3 hours. This may seem insignificant, however studies show this little bit of movement increases blood flow to the body and brain, improves concentration, supports your posture, and reduces your risk of heart disease associated with chronic siting.

Remember, you only have ONE place to live for the rest of your life (your body!) so make the most of it every. single. day.
