massage for deep relaxation and stress management

Massage is an important component to everyone’s self-care routine, whether it serves for general health maintenance or to support athletic performance.

At Balans Wellness Studio, our massage therapists combine multiple techniques and modalities to accommodate the specific needs for each client.  We work with an intention to solve the underlying cause, versus spot treating a symptom. In each massage session we strive to achieve balance and address the body as a whole. For massage in Boston come to Balans!

Each massage is highly customized using a blend of the following massage styles:

  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Orthopedic Massage
  • Relaxation Massage
  • Prenatal Massage (Pregnancy Massage)
  • Sports Massage
  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage

Sports massage is primarily but not limited to athletes; runners, marathoners, triathletes, cyclists, and those who practice cross-fit or work out regularly. We address the muscles groups involved in your activity and assessing potential imbalances.

Repetitive use, especially due to an imbalance, can cause injury and pain and inhibit you from continuing your activity. Sports massage is an important preventative measure and part of the athletic lifestyle.

Deep tissue massage involves working on the deeper muscle layers and freeing tissue from restriction, trigger points, and pain. Basically, all massage treatments fall under this category, just at varying degrees. Our therapists can all work deeply, but will only work at the depth at which the tissues benefit from. There are times when deep work is not recommended as it will worsen the condition.

If massage is too deep it can in fact be damaging to the tissue. We will recommend which type of massage you need when we see you!

Myofascial release has the same goals as deep tissue and is a technique that traditionally involves very little or no lubricant. It takes advantage of traction to create a pull or stretch in the fascia (connective tissue) and free the body from restriction along the pathways which fascia follow. All muscles start and end, but the fascia continues throughout the body in a consistent and continuous web. All entanglements of tissue involve fascia and therefore it is important to target. Therapists may incorporate this into sessions, their general style, or do a full session in this manner if requested.

Thai Massage, also known as “yoga massage”, uses no oils or lotions. The recipient remains clothed during the treatment (make sure to wear loose and comfortable clothing). The treatment is received on a padded mat on the floor. There is constant body contact between the giver and receiver, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked.

This ancient massage style is a wonderful tool to improve flexibility and get into positions that normally would be difficult. Achieve deep release with a deep sense of relaxation.
