The Beach Body

The search for the perfect “beach body”…

Approaching summer and beach time can be stressful for many people. The stress over how to fit into the swimsuit is greater than the thought of enjoying the sun. So the google search begins for the best and quickest diets to lose weight and how to tone those abs…preferably in less than four weeks, if that!

So how do we prevent this stress? If you now look to look different that you already do the number one goal is to sustain a healthy weight throughout the year. Packing on the pounds in the winter makes it harder to shed them when summer arrives.

So how do we keep a healthy weight? Here’s the deal: We need to stop worrying about calories and focus on nutrients, choosing nutrient rich versus low calorie foods!

If we stick to a wholesome diet rich in plant-based foods it is in fact quite difficult to overeat. We can eat large servings, feel satisfied, and yet avoid weight gain (and actually even lose weight if we start out overweight!). Examples of nutrient rich foods are: vegetables, fruits, berries, sprouts, legumes, nuts, seeds and healthy oils.

Now, you can control weight by eating low calorie foods (low fat muffins, diet coke, skim milk etc) but these provide no nutritional value and we will end up deprived and starved. Hence, we will reach for more food (overeat) and even worse, we will end up sick.

Low fat is another trap. Low fat typically means high in sugar, or a bunch of artificial ingredients that we cannot even pronounce. Still surprised that these are not good for us?

So eat fat and don’t hesitate to add some to the meal, but make sure it is healthy oil. My two favorites are Coconut Oil (for cooking) and Olive Oil (used raw for salads and topping).

Conclusion: Nutrient rich foods not only provide you lower calories but all the vital vitamins, minerals and building blocks that we need for our optimal health. By switching to a nutrient dense vs low calorie diet we can get in shape for the beach, have endless amount of energy AND avoid sick days.

It is that simple. Join us today and switch the bagged chips for a bag of blueberries!

To a nutrient rich diet, that works!
